How does spark work?

Our ambition for spark is to provide friendly, expert advice for anyone who would like to improve their garden, isn't ready for full blown designs or landscapers on the job, but who would still would benefit from professional guidance and wants to take our advice on straight away with some practical ideas to get going.

We provide that friendly, practical design guidance through a 45-minute video call. You can book via our website or by phone.

Each session is guided by you — bring your questions about plants, layout, materials, or share ideas you’d like a professional view on.

Afterwards, you’ll receive your Spark Pack: a concise summary of what we discussed including the likes of moodboards, plant palettes, design notes and tailored advice you can act on straight away.

You’ll meet with Brian Roberts, founder of Patterned Earth — a qualified garden designer, RHS-trained horticulturist and Permaculture Association member.

what do i need to provide?

All our customers are important collaborators to deliver the outdoor space you desire.

Once you’ve booked, we’ll ask you to send photos or a short video of your space and any measurements you have. Doing this ahead of time helps us visualise your garden and make the session as productive as possible for you.

We'll firm up what's required from you once you've booked a date and time with us.

what will we achieve?

Spark takes your early ideas and turns them into a designer-led set of concepts and practical next steps — spade-ready actions you can take straight away.

We can focus narrowly on one feature or look across the whole garden; the session is yours to shape. We’ll cover as much as possible within the 45 minutes.

And if you’d like to explore detailed design drawings or implementation support, we can seamlessly transition you into our Sketch, Sculpt, or Steward services.

What will i receive?

Within five working days you’ll receive your Spark Pack — tailored notes, visuals and suggestions drawn from your session.

Depending on where our discussion has taken us, it may include:

• Concept mood boards to inspire connect areas or improve flow

• Plant and colour palettes

• Tree and planter recommendations

• Hard-landscaping ideas such as paving, fencing or paint tones

Every Spark Pack is unique to your garden and designed to help you take confident, creative next steps.

how does the session work?

We use Microsoft Teams for the video call — no downloads or software required.

You’re welcome to show us around your garden via phone or tablet during the call; just ensure you have a strong, stable Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection.

What if I would like to use patterned earth for my garden again after your spark service has completed?

Because we've worked with you already, we have most of the key information we'll need – should you to either want to enjoy the additional benefits of our

• Sketch Service - delivering a suite of install ready designs and plans

• Sculpt Service - our full garden design and installations service, with Sculpt's additional benefits of landscaper sourcing, installation project management, planting supply and planting up.

• Or in time our Steward Service to help manage the long-term care and seasonal evolution of your garden
